The military diet is currently one of the world's most popular "diets." It’s claimed to help you lose weight quickly, up to 5 pounds in a single week.
But does this diet actually work, and is it something you should try? This video explains everything you need to know about the military diet.

What Is the Military Diet?
The military diet, also called the 3-day diet, is a weight-loss diet that can help you lose up to 5-pounds in a week.
The military diet plan involves a 3-day meal plan followed by 4 days off, and the weekly cycle is repeated again and again until you reach your goal weight.
Proponents of the diet claim that it was designed by nutritionists in the US military in order to get soldiers into top shape quickly.
How Does the Military Diet Work?
The 3-day military diet is actually split into 2 phases over a 7-day period.
For the first 3-days, you must follow a set low-calorie meal plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are no snacks between meals.
Total calorie intake during this phase is roughly 1,100–1,400 calories per day.
This is much lower than the average adult's intake, but you can check your own calorie requirements using online calorie calculator.
For the remaining 4-days of the week, you are encouraged to eat healthy and continue to keep your calorie intake low.
Proponents of the diet claim that you can repeat the diet several times until you reach your goal weight.

Along with the extraneous weight come the associated chronic diseases: diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and immune system dysfunction, to name the worst.

When it comes to losing weight, there’s more to the equation than the number of calories you eat versus how many you burn. Our bodies are affected by environmental and lifestyle factors that must be considered.

1.Environment
We are surrounded by human-made chemicals. They’re in our food, water, air, packaging, building materials, and personal care and household products. As the effects of these chemicals are studied, science is finding that many of them seriously mess up human physiology. Many chemicals (called obesogens) are known to cause weight gain and a resistance to weight-loss by disrupting the endocrine system.

2.Food
Emulsifiers, coloring, preservatives, flavoring, and pesticidesin and on our food are causing inflammation, illness, and disease. The more a food is processed, the less nutritional valueit retains. Even fresh produce is questionable: the use of chemical-fertilizers and herbicides, along with genetic modification and varietal reduction, are detracting from inherent nutrition of vegetables and fruits.
One example is triflumizole (TFZ), a common fungicide sprayed on food crops. It has been shown to cause weight-gain in mice and to put their fetuses at significantly higher risk for developing obesity than mice not exposed to TFZ.

3.Prescription Drugs
We’re a drug culture. Almost half of us are taking at least one prescription. Over 23% are taking three or more on a regular basis. In 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that over 75% of doctor visits resulted in patients leaving with a prescription.

4.Gut Microbiome
The modern Western diet is killing our guts. The majority of our immune-system lives in our gastrointestinal tract; it’s packed with friendly bacteria that break down food, destroy harmful-bacteria and other micro-organisms, promote waste elimination, and more. Chemical-laden and nutrient-poor foods discourage pre- and pro-biotic bacteria and that’s directly affecting our health.
Antibiotic medications kill both harmful and health-critical gastrointestinal microflora; their overuse and misuse have led to antibiotic resistance.
These factors throw our internal ecosystems out of whack. The consequences include changes to metabolism, hormone-imbalance, and systemic inflammation—all contributors to obesity.

5.Chronic Stress
Everyone has stress in their lives; not only is it normal, it’s necessary for survival. Chronic stress, however, potentiates a whole host of health problems, including weight-gain. Stress hormones such as cortisol initiate a chain reaction that puts your body in survival-mode, regulating blood-pressure and blood-sugar, heart-rate, hunger, other hormones, and overall metabolism. There is a definite link between chronic-stress and obesity.
How to Fight Back
Knowing the cause of a problem helps a great deal toward finding solutions. Directly addressing culprits that cause us to gain-weight will help us to lose excess and keep it off.
• Eat whole foods, keeping processed foods to a minimum.
• Ensure you get regular adequate, good-quality sleep.
• Find constructive, healthy ways to manage stress.
• Cut out added and refined sugars
• Keep up or increase your aerobic and resistance training exercise program.

Obesity is on the rise, so is insomnia. The prevalence of both these modern scourges in adult American population falls in the range of 30-35%. It may be a coincidence, or there may actually be some connection between the two.

How about some natural remedies that can tackle both these problems in one stroke? 2 sleepy time drinks I’m about to share do just that.
They help you get sound sleep. And while you sleep, they fire-up your metabolism to burn-fat. They have only a few ingredients, so you can quickly prepare them and drink-up.

1.Ginger – Lemon drink
This is everybody’s favorite weight-loss drink gauging from its popularity. The drink is light and refreshing. Have a generous stock of all the ingredients; it is a great drink to have in the morning and later in the day too.
You’ll need:
• 5-10 slices of cucumber
• 1-Tbsp freshly grated ginger
• 6 oz. water
• Juice of 1-lemon
• A pinch of Himalayan pink salt

How it works?
Cucumber- The soluble fiber in cucumber binds with the fatty-acids resulting from the digestion of the fats in our food and quickly carries them away. This reduces the total fat intake from the digestive tract.
Ginger – Ginger is a digestive aid. It goes without saying that the discomforts associated with indigestion would disrupt sleep. Ginger also increases metabolic-rate, directly aiding fat burn. It is anti-inflammatory as well and helps reduce water retention.
Lemon juice – It is an excellent detoxifier. Although the juice contains high amounts of citric-acid, it has an alkalizing effect on the body when fully digested and assimilated.

2.Warm milk and nutmeg drink
A glass of warm-milk at night used to be the number one sleep aid at one time, but now all dairy products are viewed with suspicion. While many people hold the view that milk is fattening, a comprehensive review published in the European Journal of Nutrition in 2013 reports that 11 out of 16 studies on the subject have found the opposite to be true. Regular consumption of milk does not cause weight-gain, but may actually help prevent weight-gain. Honey does more than just add some sweetness to milk, and nutmeg provides just the right amount of spiciness.
You will need:
• 1 cup milk
• 1-2 tsp honey
• A pinch of freshly grated nutmeg

Heat the milk and then cool it to the temperature you can handle. Mix in the honey and grated nutmeg, and drink it immediately.
What it does?
Milk – The amino acid tryptophan in milk is credited with inducing sleep. This essential amino-acid is required in the formation of serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with feelings of relaxation and sleep. Calcium in the milk and Vitamin D in the milk fat could be contributing to weight-loss as well since deficiency of these nutrients is known to cause weight gain.
Honey – Tryptophan requires the indirect assistance of carbohydrates to enter the brain, and honey comes to its aid. This essential amino acid normally has to compete with other amino acids in the food to get an entry into the brain.
Nutmeg – It has a mild sedative effect that puts you in the mood for sleep. At the same time, this hot spice has a thermogenic effect that helps fire-up your metabolism for burning extra fat during your sleep.

Losing weight isn’t as easy as popping a few magical pills. However, there are a few vitamins and minerals you can take to ensure your body is functioning as efficiently as possible for weight loss.
A well-balanced diet can fulfill most of your nutrient needs. But if you’re on a limited diet, adding a few safe vitamin supplements could provide the extra boost you need to stay on track with your healthy weight loss regimen.
When it comes to weight loss, not all vitamins and minerals are created equal. Keep watching to find out which ones can help you shed excess weight and keep it off.

1.B vitamins
These vitamins are essential for a fully functioning metabolism. The main function of the B vitamins is to help your body metabolize carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, and to use the stored energy in food.
Thiamine (B-1), for example, helps the body cells convert carbohydrates into energy. In other words, low levels of one or more of these vitamins means your metabolism won’t be functioning at its best. This makes losing weight even harder.

2.Vitamin D
Vitamin-D is critical to a healthy immune-system.
Your body can get all the vitamin D it needs courtesy of the sun. Yet most people today spend too much time indoors, or they live in climates where the sun doesn’t always shine.
Getting enough Vitamin-D from food is difficult, so supplements are often recommended. Adequate levels of Vitamin-D may also help prevent depression, according to some research. A positive attitude is also fundamental for an effective diet.
A 2011 study found that overweight and obese adults taking calcium and vitamin D supplements lost significantly more stomach fat than people not taking any supplements.

3.Iron
Iron plays a role in helping your body create energy from nutrients. Iron helps carry oxygen to all of the cells in your body, including your muscles. This, in turn, helps them burn-fat.
Too little iron can lead to iron deficiency anemia, which is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies in the United-States.
Symptoms of iron-deficiency anemia include:
• fatigue
• weakness
• low energy-levels
Low iron levels also reduce your physical endurance and athletic performance.

4.Magnesium
Magnesium is necessary for energy production in the body. This mineral acts as a cofactor in more than 300 enzyme-systems. These systems are responsible for a wide range of reactions in the body, including:
• controlling blood-glucose
• regulating blood-pressure
• keeping bones strong
• keeping the nervous-system functioning smoothly
Dietary surveys of people in the United States regularly show that magnesium intakes are too low. A magnesium supplement can ensure you’re getting enough of it.

5.Green tea extract
It’s technically not a vitamin or mineral, but green-tea extract is one of the few marketed supplements worth a second look. Green-tea is thought to increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation, and to reduce fat-production and absorption.
The extract of this popular beverage is known to contain powerful flavonoid antioxidants known as catechins. Green-tea also contains a healthy dose of caffeine.
